What does raising bison mean to you and your family?
Bison Ranching started as a hobby—a hobby that quickly changed into a lifestyle. The bison ranch has become a cornerstone for our family. Having a few animals creates an addiction-like desire for more. Through a lot of hard work and dedication, we’re excited to be able to live out our dreams of being surrounded by bison while providing a sustainable product to our customers.
Can you share the name of your ranch and how long you have owned it?
Hidden Bison Ranch is the name of our ranch. Our family has been raising bison since 1987.
What kinds of practices are you implementing in terms of sustainability and humane treatment?
Animal and land welfare are our top priorities. If we take care of the bison, they will take care of us. We utilize rotational grazing and locally sourced feeds to optimize our land. We try our best to let bison be bison by building custom fences and handling facilities that best fit their needs.
What does your partnership with North American Bison mean to you?
North American Bison has been instrumental in the growth of our ranch. They allow us to keep our dream of raising bison a reality.North American Bison will set aside profit to maintain quality in their product as well as their relationships with the rancher. We are on a first-name basis with the North American Bison leadership team who value the input of their ranchers. In today’s world, it’s rare to have such a close working relationship with a national meat processor.
What things would you like people to know about bison as a product?
Bison meat has all the health benefits with no sacrifices. It’s delicious and nutritious.
Why would you tell someone to choose bison over beef?
We encourage people to know what they are eating and where it comes from. Upgrading from beef to bison is an easy decision on simply the health and flavor benefits. By purchasing North American Bison products, you know you are getting a healthy, sustainable product. It’s a ranch to plate method applied on a national level.
